Welcome to Mattishall


Mattishall is situated in the very heart of Norfolk, just 11 miles west of Norwich. It is the largest village in Breckland and one of the largest villages in Norfolk.

 

There are many facilities that serve this thriving and active community.  Among these include: a primary school, doctors’ surgery, several churches, many clubs and societies, sports facilities, a variety of local shops, a café, an enterprise and training centre with gym and restaurant, and a pub.

The Parish Council


The Parish Council is made up of 9 councillors who represent the village on various matters.  We are one of three tiers of local government: the others being Norfolk County Council and Breckland District Council. There is currently a councillor vacancy. We meet at 7 pm usually on the first Monday of the month at the Memorial Hall, South Green, Mattishall but due to the current situation with COVID-19 we are meeting virtually. Please see the agenda for joining details.  The public is very welcome to attend our meetings. 

We're responsible for:

  • The upkeep of the Burgh Lane Cemetery, Memorial Garden and All Saints Churchyard

  • All Saints Church clock

  • The children’s play area 

  • The allotments

  • The upkeep of the Village Green

  • Bus shelters and seating

  • Litter bins and dog bins

  • Providing general maintenance around the village

  • The Friday night youth club

The council are currently looking for a clerk/responsible finance officer. If you wish to apply for this role please send your CV, with covering letter to the clerk.

The council met with Local Lead Flood Authority, Highways and Anglian Water in March a summary of their flood meeting is now available.  

We are running a competition, with local organisations, for local youngsters to design dog poo signs. For more information, contact the clerk.

The outdoor gym has reopened, following the current government advice. Please ensure you are following the latest government guidelines when using the space. 

Ben Handford resigned as councillor in February, the notice of vacancy is available to view.

James Ellis joined our October meeting and gave a very interesting talk on broadband in the village. He (and his family) are campaigning for a faster and more reliable service. They are asking for your support, by completing a form, to help demonstrate that there is a need for action to be taken. Covid Update - the Parish Council is responsible for a number of facilities and events that have been impacted by the lockdown. As we come out of lockdown these facilities and events are slowly coming back to use. The Parish Council have issued a statement that reflects the current position of the play area, youth club and events. Covid update statement.
