Welcome to Mattishall

Mattishall is situated in the very heart of Norfolk, just 11 miles west of Norwich. It is the largest village in Breckland and one of the largest villages in Norfolk.

There are many facilities that serve this thriving and active community.  Among these include: a primary school, doctors’ surgery, several churches, many clubs and societies, sports facilities, a variety of local shops, a café, an enterprise and training centre with gym and restaurant, and a pub.

The Parish Council

The Parish Council is made up of 9 councillors who represent the village on various matters.  We are the third tier of local government after Norfolk County Council and Breckland District Council.

We meet at 7 pm usually on the first Monday of the month at the Memorial Hall, South Green, Mattishall.  The public is very welcome to attend our meetings.

We're responsible for:

  • The upkeep of the Burgh Lane Cemetery, Memorial Garden and All Saints Churchyard

  • All Saints Church clock

  • The children’s play area

  • The allotments

  • The upkeep of the Village Green

  • Bus shelters and seating

  • Litter bins and dog bins

  • Providing general maintenance around the village

  • The Friday night youth club

Our next Parish Council meeting will be held on Monday 2 March 2020 at 7 pm at Mattishall Memorial Hall.  All welcome. View our agendas and minutes.

We are looking for a new parish clerk.  If you think you might be interested, read the vacancy details and then call or email Luisa, our current clerk, for more information.  The closing date for applications is 25 February.

The next village litter pick will be held on Saturday 28 March.  Meet us on the village green at 10 am.  We'll litter pick in small teams until midday and we'll meet together for refreshments afterwards.

A Speedwatch group has started operating in the village.  If you'd like to be involved, please contact the Clerk.

The Friday Hideout (youth club) is held at the Memorial Hall and runs from 6.30 pm - 8.30 pm for school years 6 - 11 (age 10 - 16). It's free so just come along if you are in this age category.  The club is run by the YMCA and they are looking for additional local volunteers.  They will pay for DBS checks and training.  Read more on YMCA's website and contact them directly if you can spare some time on Friday evenings.
