Welcome to Mattishall
Mattishall is situated in the very heart of Norfolk, just 11 miles west of Norwich. It is the largest village in Breckland and one of the largest villages in Norfolk.
There are many facilities that serve this thriving and active community. Among these include: a primary school, doctors’ surgery, several churches, many clubs and societies, sports facilities, a variety of local shops, a café, an enterprise and training centre with gym and restaurant, and a pub.
The Parish Council
The Parish Council is made up of 9 councillors who represent the village on various matters. We are one of three tiers of local government: the others being Norfolk County Council and Breckland District Council.
We meet at 7 pm usually on the first Monday of the month at the Memorial Hall, South Green, Mattishall. The public is very welcome to attend our meetings.
We're responsible for:
The upkeep of the Burgh Lane Cemetery, Memorial Garden and All Saints Churchyard
All Saints Church clock
The children’s play area
The upkeep of the Village Green
Bus shelters and seating
Litter bins and dog bins
Providing general maintenance around the village
The Friday night youth club
You may know that we had planned a VE Day event on the village green and this has been rescheduled to Saturday 15 August and will be called VJ Day. We'll let you know more about this event nearer the time.
If you are self-isolating and require help with shopping or picking up a prescription from the Mattishall pharmacy, please contact Helen Brook of The Mattishall Volunteer Hub on 07940 764588. She is coordinating a number of volunteers. Also contact Helen if you are able to volunteer.
Breckland Council has written to all households in the District with information about support available to residents and businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. Read the letter from Breckland Council.
Many of Mattishall's young people have enjoyed attending the Friday night youth club run by the YMCA. While they are not able to meet, they have set up a virtual club from Monday to Friday including 11 am morning workout, 1-3 pm gaming staff session, 5-6 pm podcasts, 6-8 pm gaming session.
We have appointed a new clerk although during this period of uncertainty due to the coronavirus outbreak, Luisa will be staying on as clerk until 31 May. Lorraine Trueman joined us on 1 May.
The next council meeting will be held as a virtual meeting on Monday 1 June from 7 pm. Email the Clerk in advance of the meeting if you would like to join the meeting as a member of the public.
