The Neighbourhood Plan
Neighbourhood planning gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and shape the development and growth of their local area. Neighbourhood planning provides a powerful set of tools for local people to ensure that they get the right types of development for their community where the ambition of the neighbourhood is aligned with the strategic needs and priorities of the wider local area.
Neighbourhood Plan Review
On 28 September 2017, the village voted to adopt the Neighbourhood Plan which took over two years to develop. The Parish Council is reviewing and updating that plan to ensure that it reflects the views and opinions of the local community. We would encourage people to continue to get involved and voice their opinions on the planning policies identified.

Q. What is the Neighbourhood Plan?
The Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led document to guide future development within our parish up to 2036. The Neighbourhood Plan contains planning policies which must be used by Breckland District Council when making planning decisions.

Q. Why are we reviewing the Neighbourhood Plan?
As the current plan is now 5 years old, it has been comprehensively reviewed and updated to ensure that it reflects the views and opinions of the local community. The plan includes a guide to inform the design of potential new development as well as proposals to designate several important sites as Local Green Spaces.
Q How do I have my say?
On the 8th of November 2023, Mattishall Parish Council launched an 8-week community consultation to review their Neighbourhood Plan.
The Parish Council has listened carefully and noted the previous comments and contributions from people in the parish. This valuable input has enabled us to shape the in-depth review of our Neighbourhood Plan. Our formal consultation process is now live and will run to 8th January 2024, and we encourage people to continue to
get involved and voice their opinions on the planning policies identified.
All residents, businesses, landowners, voluntary and community groups in Mattishall now have an opportunity to have their say. Please complete our online survey questionnaire or by using the survey form available in village shops.
Q How can I find out more?
To enable everyone to contribute to this important consultation, we have also organised a community “drop-in” event at:
Poultec Business Centre, Mattishall NR20 3JY on 21st November, from 11am to 7pm.
Paper copies of the Neighbourhood Plan will be available for consideration at various times and locations in the village, including:
Poultec reception, South Green; All Saints Church; and, Breckland Council, Elizabeth House, Walpole Loke, Dereham.
